Privacy Policy

Serene is an iOS app for creating calmer digital boundaries with Apple's Screen Time tools. This policy explains what information is handled by Serene, what stays on your device, and which service providers help operate the app.

1. Overview

In this policy, "Serene," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the developer of the Serene iOS app. "You" means the person using Serene.

Serene is designed to keep sensitive blocking choices local where possible. The app does not sell your personal information, does not use your selected apps or websites for advertising, and does not collect the content you view inside other apps or websites.

2. Information We Handle

Depending on how you use Serene, the app may handle these categories of information:

  • Block configuration. Names, schedules, access modes, protection settings, Exit Pass state, and other settings needed to apply your blocks.
  • Screen Time authorization status. Whether iOS reports that Screen Time access is granted, denied, or needs attention.
  • Purchase information. Product identifiers, transaction identifiers, purchase results, and local Exit Pass ledger entries needed to fulfill and spend consumable purchases.
  • Analytics events. App interactions such as onboarding progress, permission states, block setup steps, purchase outcomes, and settings actions.
  • Support information. If you contact support, we receive the email address and message content you choose to send. Serene may prefill app version, iOS version, and device model to help troubleshoot your request.
  • Notification permission status. Serene may request notification permission and schedule local notifications used to return you to the app for certain Exit Pass flows.

3. Screen Time Data Stays Local

Serene uses Apple's FamilyControls, DeviceActivity, and ManagedSettings frameworks to select apps, categories, web domains, and adult-content restrictions. Apple represents these selections through Screen Time APIs, and Serene stores the local configuration needed to apply your blocks on your device and in the app's shared app group container.

We do not receive the content you view in other apps, your browsing history, your messages, your contacts, your photos, or your precise location through Serene's blocking features.

Screen Time permissions can be changed in iOS Settings. If you revoke permission, Serene may no longer be able to apply or refresh blocks.

4. Analytics

Serene uses Firebase Analytics to understand whether features are working and where users need help. Events are designed to use stable categories and counts, such as the selected access policy, whether a permission was granted, or a bucketed number of selected targets.

Serene analytics are not intended to include the names of apps or websites you block, the content you view elsewhere, or free-form text from your block names.

5. Purchases

Serene uses RevenueCat and Apple's App Store purchase system to load products and process in-app purchases. These services may process purchase identifiers, transaction identifiers, product identifiers, device or account identifiers, and related purchase status data.

Serene also keeps a local Exit Pass ledger so purchased passes can be counted and spent. The ledger may be stored in local app storage and Keychain-backed storage to preserve purchase fulfillment.

6. How Information Is Shared

We share information only as needed to operate Serene, comply with law, or protect rights:

  • Apple. Screen Time permissions, App Store purchases, app review prompts, and device notification permissions are provided through Apple frameworks.
  • Firebase. Firebase Analytics receives app analytics events.
  • RevenueCat. RevenueCat helps manage product offerings and purchase fulfillment for Exit Passes.
  • Email providers. If you contact support, your email provider and ours process the email you send.
  • GitHub Pages. This privacy page may be hosted by GitHub Pages, which may process standard web request information when you visit it.

We do not sell your personal information.

7. Retention

Local app data remains on your device until you change it, reset it, or delete the app, subject to iOS and Keychain behavior. Purchase records may be kept as long as needed to fulfill purchases, prevent fraud, support accounting, and comply with legal obligations. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to handle the request and maintain support records.

8. Your Choices

  • You can change or remove blocks inside Serene.
  • You can revoke Screen Time access in iOS Settings.
  • You can change notification permission in iOS Settings.
  • You can delete Serene from your device to remove app data controlled by iOS deletion.
  • You can contact us to ask questions about privacy or support data.

9. Children

Serene is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review the request.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information handled by Serene. No method of storage or transmission is perfect, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date on this page. Continued use of Serene after an update means the revised policy applies.
